Make images small enough to email or upload
Phone photos are often 3–8 MB. Most forms, CMSs and email systems work far better with images under 500 KB. This tool re-encodes your images at the quality you choose and can also scale them down, which is where most of the savings come from.
Recommended settings
- Email or chat: quality 70–75%, max width 1600 px.
- Website images: quality 75–80%, max width 1920 px (or the width your layout actually uses), WEBP format.
- Documents and slides: quality 80%, max width 2000 px.
Why did a file not get smaller?
If an image is already well compressed, re-encoding can make it bigger. In that case the tool keeps your original file and tells you so.
FAQ
Are my images uploaded?
No. Compression happens with your browser's canvas encoder, on your device.
Does it remove photo metadata?
Yes. Re-encoded images do not include EXIF data such as GPS location, which is good for privacy.
